DIY

I have always been a huge ‘nester’. When I was young, I would rearrange my room every few months. This habit continued through college, and I still find myself changing things up ever so often. I like to switch things up when I need a fresh perspective, and when cleaning house, I usually come up with new ideas about where things should go.

Studying interior design for a brief period and running a construction company for years have given me a wealth of knowledge about home maintenance and care. Having the right tools on hand is critical to avoiding frustration. As a homeowner, having a basic tool kit is a must. Most of the basics are included in our Home Repair Parts Kit, but if you want to take your DIY to another level, a few additional items are helpful to have on hand, including:

Drill - Basic bits, but a backup battery is a nice-to-have.

Spackle - A small tub is fine.

Plunger - A good one, a Korky Beehive Max will save you plumber bills, trust me.

Laser Level - If you are getting wild with your art displays, this is your best friend.

Wire Cutters - If you plan to install any lighting or cut zip ties, get them.

Caulking Gun - This should be checked yearly. Don’t try to master it; keep trying.

I have fixed garbage disposals, installed dishwashers, and even installed a complete smart home lighting system. I was only shocked once. Good odds, considering.

Happy Home DIY. Go for it, it’s easier than you think.
